youth participation // creative expression // art as a tool // democracy // restrictive policy // public space

During my internship at Die Bäckerei Kulturbackstube I was part of the organization and documentation of this three-phased youth democracy project. We held discussions and workshops with young people (17-25) from Austria, Slovakia and Spain, talked about perceptions of democracy and art as a tool for political change and employed accessible artistic approaches for creative intervention in urban space. In collaboration with photographer and street artist Nerijus Malinauskas (LT) we developed the workshop dedicated to visual street arts and in two separate phases dealt with topics of restrictive city policy and (self-)perception of immigrants.

Art of Democracy - Creative Expression for Democratic Participation was a EU-funded youth project that took place in 2014 at Die Bäckerei Kulturbackstube in Innsbruck, AT. It dealt with the understanding and active practicing of cultural democracy in participative organizations and its findings were collected in Plunge in at the Deep End, a guide to intercultural youth projects management with special focus on participatory strategies.
